Handchime Choir

Our school handchime choir was established in 2011, with all members of Team A being Primary 6 students and all members of Team B being Primary 5 students. A standard handchime choir consists of approximately 11-13 members, depending on the number of octaves of the instruments. Each member is responsible for playing two to four notes, similar to the keys of a piano. However, it is important to note that the cooperation and coordination among the twelve different students are crucial to performing the music.

Since its establishment, the handchime choir has not only participated in school events such as Christmas concerts and music festivals but also frequently performed outside of school. The choir has received high praise for their performances, including representing the school at the Christmas concert at Horizon Hotels, participating in the 9th School Handbell Competition and Hong Kong Handbell Festival 2014 organized by the Handbell Association of Hong Kong, and being invited to participate in the "Arts for Peace" Festival organized by the UNESCO Hong Kong Association. The choir has also participated in various music concerts and educational tours, such as the "Spring Dance" concert organized by the Ponte della Musica and the "Handbell-A Closer Look" educational concert organized by the Christian Alliance S.Y. Yeh Memorial Primary School. The choir has also participated in the "Handbell Day Camp", where they received intensive training from overseas conductors for four days and significantly improved their skills. Some students have even shared their handchime experiences with students from our sister school in Xi'an during an exchange program.These experiences have allowed the students to learn from each other and broaden their musical and artistic horizons.

The handchime choir has also participated in various competitions and achieved outstanding results. They have won gold medals and honorable gold medals in the Hong Kong International Handbell Olympics and have received numerous awards in the Handbell and Handchime (Primary School) categories at the JSMA Competition.
