Message from the principal - November 2024

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus be with you always!

As we approach November, many parents and children are busy preparing for the upcoming first academic assessments. This may bring some stress, but we know that stress is not something we face alone. We can learn from the athletes at the Paralympics held earlier in September, who overcame their challenges and pressures. These athletes demonstrated incredible determination and perseverance, showing us the spirit of facing challenges without giving up. As parents, we must provide our children with the support and encouragement they need to believe in themselves and tackle challenges head-on.

Changes to Secondary School Assessment Starting in 2026/27

On October 16, the Education Bureau announced changes to the assessment subjects and weightings for secondary school admissions starting in the 2026/27 school year. This includes Physical Education being assessed as a subject, which will affect current primary three students and those below (the assessment arrangements for current P.4 to P.6 will remain unchanged). Additionally, from next year, the Science and Humanities subjects in P.1 to P.3 will be reorganized. We have conducted various internal meetings and teacher training in preparation for these changes. We also consulted parent representatives during the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting and the academic assessment parents' meeting in early October. We appreciate the concerns expressed by parents regarding the future assessment structure for Bible Studies and Putonghua. We will consider all feedback and hold a related parents' meeting soon to discuss the new arrangements, class schedules, and other school matters.

New PTA Election and Continuing Collaboration

Last Saturday (October 26) was the day for the Parent Education Programme and the election of the new PTA committee. Thank you to all the parents who attended. Special thanks to the 11 candidates who registered for election. Although only 7 parents were elected to the new committee, we appreciate every parent's contributions. Please continue to support the school and the PTA by sharing your valuable feedback through various channels. We look forward to continued collaboration between home and school to strengthen our partnership and support the school's steady development. We hope the PTA will continue to act as a bridge between parents and the school, overseeing lunch, school bus, and uniform services, ensuring parents' concerns are addressed.

Lunch, School Buses, and Campus Environment

We recognize the importance of lunch, school buses, school uniforms, and the campus environment for children's growth. We recently conducted a parent survey on school bus and lunch services to gather more input before planning future contracts. We are committed to improving the dining environment and monitoring food quality. In addition to regular monitoring by the PTA lunch committee, we will enhance surprise inspections. We will also soon invite parents to participate in a new initiative to sample student lunches at school to increase transparency. Please keep an eye out for more details in upcoming notices.

We are also addressing issues with toilet flushing and will continue discussions with the Education Bureau and management for improvements. Since the summer, we have started various restroom improvement projects to maintain cleanliness. Regarding mosquito control on the playground and flowerbeds, we have purchased mosquito spray machines and will spray every Saturday and during long holidays to reduce mosquito problems.

Open Communication with Parents

The school values communication with parents. Besides being available at the school gate every morning and after school, we also connect through weekends, parents’ days, phone or email. Each teacher has a voicemail system for communication, and their numbers are listed in the latest news section on the intranet. Teachers will respond to messages within three working days.

We Value Your Feedback

Each year, we implement various teaching policies, making many decisions. Each decision is carefully considered with the question: "Why?" This is crucial, as our focus is always on the well-being of the children. Thank you to the PTA members and parent representatives for sharing your concerns and needs, providing valuable suggestions for our decision-making. Together, let’s make the journey of raising our children easier.
